Spring Update: Growth, Community, and New Adventures at The Whiskey Lab

March 21, 2025

As the first signs of spring emerge across the country, we at The Whiskey Lab find ourselves in a season of remarkable growth and exciting new beginnings. Much like the whisky-making traditions we honor, spring represents a time of renewal and fresh possibilities. Today, we're sharing some updates on our journey and what lies ahead for our whiskey community.

The Spirit of Spring in Scotch Whisky Tradition

Before diving into our news, let's take a moment to appreciate spring's significance in traditional Scottish whisky production. Historically, spring marked an important transition in the distilling calendar. Many distilleries would conclude their production season in late spring, before the warmer summer months made temperature control more challenging.

The pure spring waters, refreshed by winter meltwater and filtered through Scotland's ancient landscapes, were particularly prized during this season. Master distillers often noted the special character that spring water brought to their spirits—a brightness and clarity that seemed to capture the essence of the season itself.

Many traditional distillers also considered spring ideal for filling casks, believing the gradually warming temperatures helped initiate the complex interaction between spirit and wood. As nature awakened from winter, so too did the whisky begin its long journey of maturation and transformation.

Unprecedented Growth: Our New Fulfillment Center

Just one month ago, we launched our new fulfillment center with a mission to make exceptional independent bottlings more accessible than ever before. The results have exceeded our wildest expectations.

With flat-rate shipping of just $19.99 for up to 12 bottles to 46 states, we've removed one of the most significant barriers between whiskey enthusiasts and the bottles they've been curious to explore. Your response has been nothing short of extraordinary—this past month has been our most successful in The Whiskey Lab's history.

Many of our most sought-after expressions, including the majority of our Uncharted and Tri Carragh collections, have nearly sold out. This remarkable response confirms what we've always believed: American whiskey enthusiasts are hungry for authentic, distinctive spirits with genuine character and stories worth sharing.

Community in Action: Our Partnership with Whiskey Valor Foundation

One of our core values at The Whiskey Lab has always been community—not just among whiskey drinkers, but in the broader sense of supporting one another and giving back. That's why we're particularly proud to announce our partnership with Whiskey Valor Foundation, a veteran-owned non-profit that raises funds for veteran initiatives through single cask sales.

As a veteran-owned company ourselves, this collaboration represents a perfect alignment of values and purpose. We're dedicating 120 bottles of our exceptional Whispering Waters North British 35, each laser-engraved with Whiskey Valor's logo, with 100% of profits directed to support their vital work.

The North British 35 isn't just a remarkable dram worthy of any collection—it's now also a way to support those who have served. The distinctive character of this grain whisky, with its notes of vanilla custard, tropical fruits, and elegant oak spice, makes it as exceptional in the glass as the cause it supports.

Bringing Enthusiasts Together: Event Success and Future Gatherings

Our first-ever ticketed whiskey tasting event recently confirmed something we've long suspected: the desire for in-person whiskey experiences runs deep. The event sold out in less than a week, with enthusiasts even showing up at the door hoping for last-minute tickets.

What truly moved us was seeing the community connections formed over shared drams. Strangers became friends, stories were exchanged, and the rich tapestry of experiences that make whiskey special came alive in the room. Those who couldn't attend still reached out for bottles to enjoy at home, eager to be part of the experience in their own way.

Perhaps most telling was that Jack Rose, one of the nation's most respected whiskey establishments, purchased cases of the bottles featured at our tasting—and sold out within 20 minutes of our event concluding.

This enthusiasm has inspired us to expand our event calendar. In the coming months, we'll be hosting:

  • A virtual tasting with First Fill Spirits on April 17
  • A University of Chicago Alumni Event in Washington DC on May 7
  • A special evening with the Houston Scotch Whisky Society on May 17
  • A Los Angeles Scotch tasting experience on June 11
  • Several additional events currently in planning stages

We're always looking for new communities to connect with. If you'd like to see a Whiskey Lab event in your area, please reach out to us at events@thewhiskeylab.com.

As we look ahead to the remainder of spring and beyond, we're filled with gratitude for this community of whiskey explorers. Your enthusiasm, curiosity, and willingness to venture beyond the familiar have made The Whiskey Lab's mission possible.

In the coming months, we'll be sharing more educational content, tasting notes, and stories from the world of independent bottling. We'll continue seeking out exceptional casks that deserve their moment in the spotlight. Most importantly, we'll keep building spaces—both physical and virtual—where whiskey enthusiasts can connect, learn, and discover together.

Spring is a season of possibilities, of new growth and fresh perspectives. In that spirit, we invite you to keep exploring with us, to keep asking questions and sharing discoveries. Whether you're new to the world of independent bottlings or a seasoned collector, there's always another horizon to explore, another story waiting to be told.

As they say in Scotland, "Slàinte mhath" (Good health) and happy spring!
